The Inspiration Behind SCULPTURA®
A Message from SCULPTURA's Creator, Lidia Szczepanowski
I’ve acquired a wide range of practical knowledge over the years. My SCULPTURA® [sculpt-it-your-way] shapewear dresses are a physical manifestation of the decades of unique experiences and useful information I’ve picked up along the way as a litigation attorney, businesswoman, media producer and host, speaker, and international beauty queen.
When I was 13, I was the victim of a sexual assault by a relative. I didn't tell anyone for years and I remember feeling unbelievably embarrassed and ashamed. I lived my teenage years covering my body and “uglying” myself up because I didn't want to look or feel like I was “asking for it”.
It was not until I walked out onto a stage in a swimsuit during a beauty pageant (at the age of 41) that I was finally able to let go of all the guilt, fear and shame associated with my trauma. To my absolute surprise, I won the title of Mrs. New York America 2006 and on that day, I fell in love with all my imperfections and decided to celebrate instead of hide everything about myself, including my body. This ideology set the framework for my desire to create SCULPTURA®.
A few years ago I was looking to buy a comfortable, high-quality, professional looking figure flattering dress that I could wear to the courtroom in the morning, a networking luncheon in the afternoon, and then to a cocktail party at night. During my search, I came across a few "slimming" dresses, (some of them made me feel like a sausage), I learned a lot about bras, shapewear, and every type of undergarment you can think of, but I wasn't able to find a dress that was sophisticated yet sexy, and that helped make my bust, waist, hips and booty all look good. And then one day, I had my Ah-ha moment. I asked myself, "why can't the bra and shapewear be built right into the dress itself?" So I took out a piece of paper and start sketching some designs.
Fast forward several years and countless hours of engineering and innovation and lots of trial and error, and I'm proud to say that my company was issued a United States utility patent for the world's first [sculpt-it-your-way] clothing line that is customizable and it helps correct figure issues. We call this fashion innovation our exclusive "Body Sculpting Technology".
